Species of fish available: Fish for all five species of salmon, halibut, lingcod, steelhead, cutthroat trout and at least a dozen species of rockfish. Guests are encouraged to join the crew and try their hand at crabbing and shrimping.

Fishing methods: Salmon fishing typically involves trolling using downriggers, however, lead weights or deep divers are often employed to reach fish just below the surface. They troll using herring and artificial lures, plus they have a full arsenal of tools and tactics. Sometimes, mooching or even jigging will be the method of the day for catching salmon. Typically, they use light trolling or level wind reels coupled with long (10' 6") medium weight rods or, for even more excitement, saltwater fly reels. Nothing compares to the fight of a big king salmon on fly gear and light line! Be prepared for a 30 to 45 minute battle. When fish are actively feeding on the surface, casting with light tackle can be an exciting alternative. They use only high quality light tackle to keep the sport in your sportfishing!

Halibut Fishing: Jigging for Halibut has proven so successful they seldom do anything else. Whenever possible, they fish shallow water for these pacific monsters making the fight even more exhilarating! When jigging, they use comparatively "light" halibut gear, but for the real "sportfishing enthusiast" we use "ultra lightweight" 10-20 lb class bait casting and spinning gear. Their guides do their best to stay on the "cutting" edge of angling techniques.

Bottomfishing: Their favorite method incorporates the use of high quality metal butterfly and knife jigs, coupled with highly responsive lightweight jigging rods and no-stretch microfiber lines. Using this system will give you the "fight of your life", even with 20 to 30 lb fish. Occasionally fish in excess of 100 pounds are landed on these light rigs, which prove to be a world record fishing experience!

Lingcod and Rockfish: If you're after more action and sport, fishing for rockfish and lingcod can be some of best ever. Jigging, casting or even fly-fishing for these sporty fish is fast and fun. They often hook a big halibut using ultra-light spinning or casting gear while targeting rockfish.

What type of boats do they use: Their super fast, smooth riding, 28-32ft Catamarans are the best fishing boat for Alaskan conditions. They have comfortable heated cabins and are powered by twin 225 hp 4 stroke Yamahas. Their experienced captains have their Coast Guard licenses.

Fish care: Your guide and deckhands will insure your fish is properly prepared for your trip home. Watch while they clean, vacuum-pack and flash freeze your catch in their dockside fish packing facility or let them take care of it while you take a hot shower or keep fishing. Up to two 50-pound boxes of your fish will be packed in airline approved wet-lock boxes for maximum freshness. Your fish are stored in their walk-in freezer until your return flight home.

Does the lodge have rainwear and boots available for guests: Yes, both are provided.

Climate: Alaska weather is unpredictable. Expect temperatures from 50 to 70 degrees with occasional showers and periods of rain.

What city do you fly into: Ketchikan, Alaska.
Several carriers fly to Ketchikan.  In Ketchikan, you'll meet a lodge representative and climb aboard a floatplane for approximately a 35-minute ride. Before you know it you'll be at their dock.

Is there a floatplane to the lodge: Yes, generally, transportation is a floatplane unless other circumstances prevail or guests wish to use a boat for transportation. There is no weight limit on the floatplane. The cost of the roundtrip charter is approximately $250.00 - can be more or less depending on the number of guests.

Do you need to stay overnight before flying to Ketchikan: No, you'll arrive at 4:00 p.m. without having to spend the night.
