The Tomo River serpentines its way through the north side of El Tuparro National Natural Park. This untouched jungle area is home to more than 72 mammal species and 320 bird species. Tomo River System
The Tomo River is one of the main tributaries of the Orinoco River. The networking of the surrounding untouched lagoons and floodplains make the area a peacock bass fishing haven.
The untouched network of lagoons and flooded plains surrounding the Park is home to 26 fish species.
Species: Big peacock bass, vampire fish, redtail catfish, tiger catfish, Amazon pellona, arowana, silver croaker, pacu, black pacu, red piranha, black piranha, and more.
Travel Time: Most prime fishing locations are 10 minutes to an hour boat ride from Camp.

The Fishing Program:
Season: The 2024 fishing season runs from early January through late March.
Boats: 14-ft. Lowe aluminum boats with Yamaha 15 HP outboards and electric motors. Boats are comfortable, with chairs and platforms for casting. Coolers are stocked with lunch, snacks, beers, soft drinks, and water. You'll fish two anglers per boat and guide.
Guides: Experienced guides do not speak English very well but can communicate what's important. You will have the same guide throughout the week.
Fishing Gear: Gear is not provided. Single hooks are required on all lures and flies. A comprehensive tackle and gear list is included in our confirmation packet.
Requirements: All lines and leaders need to be at least 60-pounds. (80 is recommended.) All fishing is catch-and-release.
Fishing License: At this time, no fishing licenses are required in Colombia.
Typical Fishing Day:
For this package, you’ll have six full days of guided fishing, up to ten guided hours each day. Schedules are flexible, but your day typically starts at 6:00 a.m. and ends between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. You’ll eat breakfast at Camp or take it with you on the boat. Depending on your fishing location, you’ll return to the Camp for lunch, or your guide will prepare a shoreside lunch around noon. Dinner is at 7:00 p.m.
Most prime fishing locations are within 10 minutes to an hour from the Camp.
Akuani Floating Camp
Akuani is a floating camp that stays in one location in the Tomo River system. There are five fully-equipped floating cabins. Each cabin has two twin-size beds, a private bath with a shower, 110v electricity, a fan, and mosquito nets. The camp is limited to ten anglers per week.
Communications: The camp does not have Wi-Fi. Each angler is allowed up to three minutes of satellite phone usage. After three minutes of usage, it's $3.00 per minute.
Meals: The camp has a full kitchen and a dining tent with mosquito netting. Their chef prepares three international meals each day, plus unlimited snacks and soft drinks. With advanced notice, they can meet dietary restrictions.
Alcohol: Unlimited beer is included in the package. If you would like wine or liquor, with planning, it can be arranged for you in advance, and you'll be invoiced at the Camp.
