World-Class Bonefishing, Permit, and Giant Trevally
St. Brandon's Atoll comprises over 50 small islands, coral ridges, and vast sand flats in the remote Indian Ocean. It belongs to the Republic of Mauritius and is situated 268 nautical miles northeast of Mauritius’s main island. This area is rich in fish, flora, and fauna and has quickly become famous for its world-class saltwater fly-fishing. The atoll is not reachable by aircraft, so a 24+ hour sail on a supply vessel from Mauritius is required to reach it. About 40 people live on the island.

St. Brandon's Bonefishing
St. Brandon's offers spectacular bonefishing. Bonefish average 6-8 pounds, with double-digits landed almost weekly. Over the past few seasons, anglers have landed bonefish weighing over 14 pounds and up to 35"! Novices can target the large numbers of fairly naive bonefish while the experienced rods hunt singly trophy-tailing bones. The hard-white sand, turtle grass, and coral flats of St. Brandon make for easy wading. Quality, protective flats wading boots must be worn.
BlueFin Trevally
Bluefin trevally are present, but numbers are low. Other notable flats species include golden, yellow dot, and green spot trevally.

Giant Trevally
St. Brandon's offers opportunities for some truly large Giant Trevally. While anglers may not encounter GTs every day, the fish here can be exceptional in size, making St. Brandon's an exciting destination for anglers looking to target trophy GTs.
Permit Fishing
St Brandon Atoll is home to large numbers of Indo-Pacific Permit. Daily opportunities at permit range between 5 -15 pounds, although they have landed fish over 20 pounds. All permit fishing on St. Brandon's takes place on foot, providing guests with the ultimate walk-and-stalk flats fishing experience.
Fishing the Flats
Typical Fishing Day:
7:00 a.m. - You'll have breakfast.
By 8:00 a.m. - You’ll head out to the flats to fish the first tide. If the prime tidal movement coincides with your lunch break, you’ll usually stay out on the flats and enjoy a packed lunch. There’s the option to return to the Guesthouse for lunch if the tide and distance allow.
Early afternoon sun glare can make spotting fish difficult.
4:30 p.m. - You’ll return to the Lodge. The next day’s schedule and activities are planned the night before between the guides. If you have any preferences, feel free to tell the guides. The species you wish to target and current tidal movement are considered.
The Fishing Program
Two Seasons: April - May and October - December for peak fishing.
Group Size: 8 anglers per week and 5 guides. You'll fish two anglers per guide. You can also upgrade to one angler per guide for an added fee.
Guides: Five world-class professional, English-speaking guides.
Boats: 17-ft. custom-built mono-hull boats with two 15-HP two-stroke Yamaha engines are used to transport anglers to flats where they will wade fish. You’ll only cast from the boats when targeting GTs in deeper waters.
Fishing Equipment: No equipment is included. Fly outfits are available for a weekly rental of $100 per trip, with a breakage fee of $250. Fly lines are excluded.
A Fishing License is included in the package and issued onsite.
Physical Condition: They recommend that you be in reasonably good shape. When fishing the flats, you'll often be far from shore and need sufficient stamina to wade in the water throughout each day. You’ll be far from any medical assistance if needed.
Weather: Temperatures range between 25° to 30°C (77° to 86°F). Wind averages 15 knots (13-18 mph).
The Guesthouse
Lodging: You'll stay in a low-key but charming four-bedroom, two-bathroom air-conditioned Guesthouse on Raphael Island, north of the Atoll. Each room has two large twin beds, daily housekeeping, and laundry service twice a week. A covered outdoor dining/lounge area is perfect for enjoying a cold Phoenix (local beer) at the end of a great day of fishing. A separate mudroom/tackle room ensures all your gear is cleaned and neatly stored.
Electricity: Generators provide power between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. Plug points are British square three-prong/Type G.
Meals on the Covered Patio
Meals are international and Mauritian cuisine. Dinners feature grilled fish and chicken, also possibly a chicken or seafood curry, and an evening or two will feature steak.
Beverages: Soft drinks, water, and local beers are included in the package.
Communications: Starlink Wi-Fi is now available for $50 per person per week, paid in USD on the Island. Guides carry satellite phones when out on the water in case of emergency. Raphael Island has a fixed-unit satellite phone for $4 USD per minute, which guests can use at their own expense.
Non-Angler: There are very few activities on the island for the non-angler.
The Guesthouse on Raphael Island
Getting to St. Brandon's Atoll:
Just getting here can be a trip in itself. It takes three nights to get to the Atoll—one in the air, one hotel night in Mauritius, and one aboard one of two 64 ft. supply vessels. The crossing takes 24 to 28 hours.
1.) On Sunday, the day before the start of the trip, you'll need to fly to the main island of Mauritius and stay overnight. (Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean.) The outfitter recommends Le Suffren Hotel in Port Louis, located in the same harbor as the transport vessel. (In Mauritius, the ground transfers, hotel nights, and meals are not included in the package.)
2.) On Monday at about 1:00 p.m., your group will depart Port Louis on a 64-foot supply vessel. The crossing takes 24 to 28 hours (one way) and is included in the package. At this time, there are no aerial options for St. Brandon's Atoll.

12-Day Travel – Sample Itinerary
Day 1 – Tuesday: Arrival in Mauritius
Guests must arrive in Mauritius and stay overnight before the scheduled departure. The outfitter recommends [Le Suffren Hotel & Marina] in Port Louis, as this is the designated meeting point for the following day.
Day 2 – Wednesday: Departure for St. Brandon’s
Meet in the bar area of Le Suffren Hotel at 12:00 p.m. (time to be confirmed). A Raphael Fishing representative will meet the group and review the transfer procedures.
At approximately 12:15 p.m., guests and their luggage will be transported by minivan to the vessel's departure point in Port Louis, about a 10-minute drive.
Once all guests are aboard, the vessel must complete departure clearance with port authorities. This process may take some time, and your patience is appreciated.
The vessel is scheduled to depart between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. for the approximately 28-hour crossing to St. Brandon’s, weather permitting.
Day 3 – Thursday: Arrival at St. Brandon’s Atoll.
Arrive at Raphael Island in the late afternoon, weather permitting. Meet your fishing guides, receive an orientation, and settle into Guesthouse 1 for your first night on the atoll.
Day 4 – Friday: Fishing Day 1
Enjoy your first full day of guided fishing. Upon returning, guests will move into Guesthouse 2, where they will stay for the remainder of the trip.
Days 5–10 – Saturday through Thursday: Fishing Days 2–7
After breakfast, guests typically depart for fishing between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. and return at approximately 4:30 p.m. Fishing hours depend on daylight and conditions.
Day 11 – Friday: Departure from St. Brandon’s
The transfer vessel departs St. Brandon’s at approximately 7:00 a.m. for the return crossing to Mauritius. Breakfast will be served aboard during the sheltered-water portion of the journey between Raphael Island and Isle de Sud.
Day 12 – Saturday: Arrival in Mauritius
The vessel is expected to arrive in Port Louis between 9:00 and 10:30 a.m., weather permitting.
Upon arrival, all guests and their luggage must clear port authorities before leaving the port. This includes inspections for prohibited items and substances. Mauritius has strict drug laws, and possession of illegal substances can result in imprisonment and serious consequences for the entire operation.
Following clearance, guests will be transferred by minivan to Le Suffren Hotel.
Important Return Flight Information:
Guests flying home on Day 12 must not book flights departing before 4:30 p.m., allowing for possible delays during the crossing and port clearance.
For guests staying overnight in Mauritius, Le Suffren Hotel remains a convenient choice.
For those flying home the same day, we recommend reserving a day room at the Holiday Inn near Mauritius International Airport. Day rooms can be arranged in advance.
The hotel is approximately 45–60 minutes from Port Louis by taxi or prearranged transfer. Its convenient airport location allows guests to shower, enjoy a meal, and relax before their international flight.

Required Waiver of Liability Form:
All clients/participants are required to sign the Reservation and Indemnity Form and Providence Terms and Conditions waiver included in the pre-trip information sent out upon booking.
Deposit and Cancelation Policies: Reservations made more than 12 months in advance requires a $1,000.00 deposit per person within 14 days of invoicing. Reservations made less than 12 months in advance require a 50% deposit within 14 days of invoicing. Three (3) months prior to departure 100% of the total amount is due. Cancellations made 12 months or more in advance will forfeit the $1000 deposit. Cancellations made 12 months - 181 days prior to trip will forfeit 50% of the charter rate. Cancellations made 180 days or less prior to departure will forfeit full charter rate. All cancellations must be made in writing. Deposit will only be refunded if a replacement can be found. Reservation for which payment are not received as on time as per the terms are subject to cancellation by FCA 7 days after notification. In case of cancellation by FlyCastaway money received will be paid back in full excluding banking fees. Once a deposit is received, all revisions are subject to a $100.00 handling fee. All prices are subject to availability of bookings, change by service providers, and are quoted at low season fares. Rates are subject to change. The ship/lodge reserves the right to cancel sailing/a trip due to bad weather conditions.

It is also essential that all clients have a comprehensive medical emergency evacuation insurance policy to cover them for the duration of the trip (this is provided in the package for the 2027 season). It is the right of the live-aboard service provider to cancel any booking without refund, if the client is not adequately insured. In this case, adequate insurance means: an insurance that covers emergency medical evacuation from the scene of the illness or accident, to the nearest best hospital and then back to your hometown.
